17.4. Glow plugs

GENERAL INFORMATION

Check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Connect the voltmeter between feeding tire of candles of an incandescence and weight. Include ignition and check that tension to candles moves in the corresponding interval of time. Time of giving of tension to glow plugs increases at lower temperatures and decreases at temperature increase. If tension moves to glow plugs, the relay means and electric conducting are serviceable.
2. For check of serviceability of a glow plug disconnect from it the tire of giving of tension. Using a tester, check resistance between contact in the top part of a candle and the candle case. Resistance of a glow plug makes 1,5 Ohm and if the tester shows bigger resistance, the glow plug is faulty.
3. In the presence of the ampermeter measuring big currents, connect it between feeding tire and the top contact of a glow plug. Submit tension on a glow plug and measure a current consumed by a candle. If the current consumed by a candle, exceeds 15 And, means, the glow plug is faulty.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. Unscrew a nut and remove feeding tire from the top part of a glow plug (see fig. Elements of connection of the feeding tire to a glow plug).
3. Unscrew a glow plug from a head of the block of cylinders (see fig. A glow plug arrangement on the diesel engine without a turbo-supercharging).

Check of candles of the incandescence which has been removed from the engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Check each glow plug on existence of mechanical damages. The burned or destroyed tips of a glow plug can be from a bad stream of dispersion of fuel a nozzle. If there is such damage it is necessary to check and if necessary to replace fuel nozzles.
2. If glow plugs have no mechanical damages, check their electric resistance which should be less than 1,5 Ohm.
3. Operability of candles of an incandescence can be checked, submitting on them 12 volts. Thus they should heat up evenly and for a demanded interval of time. Thus it is necessary to observe precautions:

– To hold a glow plug a special clip or flat-nose pliers.
– The electric power-supply circuit of a glow plug should have the fuse.
– After check the glow plug should be cooled within several minutes.

4. The glow plug in a good condition heats up to reddening of a working konik within 5 seconds. At longer heating or heating in an average part, instead of on the candle end the candle is faulty and is subject to replacement.

Installation

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. Thus it is necessary to grease a carving part of a glow plug with antiprigarny structure on the basis of copper.
