7.19. Check of a working gap of radical bearings

GENERAL INFORMATION

Installation of loose leaves of radical bearings
At installation of loose leaves of radical bearings in a cover a ledge on the loose leaf combine with a groove in a cover.

Plastigage core for measurement of gaps in the bearings, located on cranked to a shaft

Measurement of width of the deformed core of Plastigage with use of a large-scale ruler

Installation of a persistent half ring on a cover of the radical bearing

Installation of a cover of the radical bearing

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Clear a back part of the loose leaf and a place of its installation in the block of cylinders and covers of radical bearings.
2. Establish loose leaves on the places, thus a ledge on the loose leaf it should be combined with a groove on a cover.
3. One of methods which assumes micrometer existence for measurement of diameter of openings, consists in establishing covers of radical bearings together with the loose leaf on the block of cylinders and to screw them the demanded moment. Measure internal diameter of each collected pair of loose leaves of bearings. Measure diameter of each radical neck of a cranked shaft. Subtract from the measured diameter of the bearing I correspond shchy diameter of a radical neck of a cranked shaft.
4. The second (and more exact) a method consists in using a product known as for Plastigage. It is a round plastic core which is compressed between the loose leaf and a neck of a cranked shaft. After removal of a cover of the radical bearing the deformed plastic core is measured by a special template which is available in Plastigage set. Procedure for Plastigage use following.
5. On established in the block of cylinders loose leaves establish without greasing a cranked shaft. Necks of a cranked shaft and loose leaves should be absolutely pure and dry.
6. Cut off some slices of a plastic core of Plastigage (they should be slightly shorter, than width of the main bearings) and establish on each neck of a cranked shaft.
7. Establish covers with the bottom loose leaves and tighten bolts of fastening the demanded moment. In the course of gap measurement by the Plastigage method do not rotate a cranked shaft.
8. Unscrew a cover of fastening of the loose leaf, remove it and to the deformed plastic core put a large-scale ruler. Comparing width of the deformed plastic core with control width on a large-scale ruler, define gap size.
9. In end carefully clear Plastigage traces - a material from loose leaves and a cranked shaft.
